Mono-Ammonium Phosphate (MAP)
Description
Mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) is a widely used fertiliser that provides essential nitrogen and phosphorus to plants. It appears as a white or off-white granular material. MAP is appreciated for its high nutrient content and excellent water solubility, making it suitable for various crops and soil types.
Shipping and Storage
MAP is shipped in bags, bulk, or containers and should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture to prevent caking and chemical degradation. It should not be stored with alkaline substances or strong oxidizers.
Risk Management
MAP is generally safe to handle, but dust control and PPE such as gloves, goggles, and dust masks are important to minimize exposure. Spills should be swept up promptly to prevent environmental contamination.
Dust
MAP dust can cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Prolonged or repeated exposure should be avoided. Wear appropriate PPE, including masks and gloves, during handling.
Explosion Risk
MAP dust is not highly combustible, but as with most fertilisers in fine particulate form, it can form explosive mixtures with air under certain conditions. Avoid dust accumulation and ignition sources in storage and handling areas.
