Kieserite (Magnesium Sulfate Monohydrate)

Description

Kieserite (magnesium sulfate monohydrate) is a naturally occurring mineral used as a fertiliser to supply magnesium and sulfur to crops. It is a white or grayish granular or crystalline solid, valued for its high solubility and rapid nutrient release.

Shipping and Storage

Kieserite is shipped in bags, bulk containers, or drums, and should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from moisture, as it is highly hygroscopic and can cake or dissolve if exposed to humidity.

Risk Management

Kieserite is low risk to handle but can cause irritation if inhaled or in contact with skin and eyes. Use gloves, goggles, and dust masks during handling. Spills should be cleaned up promptly to avoid slips and contamination.

Dust

Kieserite dust may cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Adequate dust control and use of PPE are recommended, especially during bulk handling.

Explosion Risk

Kieserite dust is not considered combustible, but as with most fine powders, it can form explosive mixtures with air if suspended in significant quantities and exposed to an ignition source. Minimize dust formation and avoid ignition sources in storage areas.
