Kaolin
Description
Kaolin is a white, fine-grained clay mineral (primarily kaolinite) used in ceramics, paper production, rubber, paints, and as a food additive. It is valued for its whiteness and chemical inertness.
Shipping and Storage
Kaolin is shipped in bags or bulk containers. Store in dry, covered, and well-ventilated areas to prevent moisture absorption, caking, and contamination.
Risk Management
Kaolin is low risk to handle, but dust suppression and PPE such as dust masks, gloves, and goggles are recommended during handling and processing. Clean up spills to avoid slips and minimize airborne dust.
Dust
Kaolin dust can cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Prolonged or repeated inhalation should be avoided. Use adequate dust control and PPE during handling.
Explosion Risk
Kaolin dust is not combustible and does not present an explosion hazard. Maintain good housekeeping to prevent dust accumulation.
