Dolomite

Description

Dolomite is a sedimentary carbonate mineral composed primarily of calcium magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO₃)₂). It is used as a source of magnesium, as a soil conditioner, and in the production of glass, ceramics, and as a construction aggregate.

Shipping and Storage

Dolomite is shipped in bulk, bags, or containers and should be stored in a dry, covered, and well-ventilated location to avoid moisture uptake and caking. Storage away from acids is recommended.

Risk Management

Dolomite is considered low risk, though dust mitigation and PPE such as dust masks and gloves are advised during handling. Clean up spills to avoid slips and environmental contamination.

Dust

Dolomite dust can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Prolonged or repeated exposure should be avoided; use appropriate PPE and dust control measures.

Explosion Risk

Dolomite dust is not combustible, but as with other fine powders, it can present a dust explosion hazard if suspended in air with an ignition source. Minimize dust and avoid open flames.
