Dicalcium Phosphate

Description

Dicalcium phosphate (DCP) is a white, odorless powder produced by the reaction of calcium carbonate with phosphoric acid. It is primarily used as a dietary supplement in animal feed and as a tableting agent in pharmaceuticals.

Shipping and Storage

Dicalcium phosphate is shipped in bags, drums, or bulk containers. Store in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area, away from moisture and incompatible substances to prevent caking and chemical degradation.

Risk Management

Dicalcium phosphate is low risk to handle, but PPE such as gloves, dust masks, and goggles should be used to prevent inhalation and skin or eye contact. Promptly clean up spills to avoid slips and dust accumulation.

Dust

Dust from dicalcium phosphate can cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Adequate dust control and PPE are recommended, especially during bulk transfers.

Explosion Risk

Dicalcium phosphate dust is not considered combustible, but fine dust may present a minor explosion hazard in confined spaces with an ignition source. Avoid creating dust clouds and ensure proper ventilation.
