Cotton Seed (De-linted)

Description

Cottonseed is the seed of the cotton plant, often de-linted and used for oil extraction or as high-protein animal feed.

Shipping and Storage

Cottonseed is shipped in bulk or bags. It should be stored in dry, cool, well-ventilated areas to prevent spoilage, mold growth, and pest infestation. Covered storage is recommended.

Risk Management

Handling is generally low risk, but dust suppression and the use of PPE such as dust masks and gloves are advised to prevent respiratory and skin irritation.

Dust

Dust from cottonseed can cause mild irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Prolonged exposure should be avoided; use adequate ventilation and PPE.

Explosion Risk

Cottonseed dust is combustible and can form explosive mixtures with air in confined spaces. Good dust control and housekeeping are important to reduce explosion risk.
